| Clarians and Breathers ...a brief Comparison |
||||
|
|
Clarian | Breather | ||
| Motivation | Clarians
are, for the most part, motivated by principle. Considerations
regarding property and sex are secondary to those of principle. |
Varies highly from unit to unit. For the most part breathers are well meaning, although notions of property or sex partners are in most units the prime motivating factor. These notions are modified by varying degrees of principle.
| Lifespan | Clarians can live for an indefinite period largely due to their ability to sample. | A
typical breathing unit may last up to a hundred Earth years (approx.). A cavalier
regard for their own lives and high disregard for the lives of others
make for unpredictable factoring. The community system of survival
potential (so called health care) is all but in a few cases utterly
property driven. |
||
| Reproduction | Clarians
may only reproduce in their native physical state. Sexual activity is
possible in a sampled incarnation but procreation is not possible. Respect for life and deep regard for offspring are so embedded in their principles that Clarians rarely reproduce. For example, Clarius had a population of approximately 20 million in the Pre-Sagren Era (almost eighty million Earth years ago). There are some 22 million Clarians today. Of the original 20 million more than 16 million are still living. |
Units
engage in the activity of reproduction without regard for possible
offspring. Motivation, highly ego-based, is one of pleasure, tension
release or chattel. Quite often the male (considered important than
female in most breather societies) takes on a female partner for sex in
much the same way that a dog marks his territory urinating on a tree.
In many cases of breather sex the female is the tree. Huge emphasis is placed on what is forbidden. Breathers are under constant programming from television and "pop music" (breather term for songs rendered in a series of monotonous and predictable cadences). Most of the subject matter of this programming is some kind of peculiar celebration of sexual activity that is forbidden or looked down upon. Sex is more provocative or interesting to breathers when associated with interacial concerns, age inappropriateness, adultery, infidelity, homosexuality, cruelty and perversion. There exists a small percentage of breather society that engage in rational sex in which both partners benefit by an exchange of mutual appreciation. |
||
| Entertainment | It
is not so much a new concept. The idea of entertainment has been around
since it was discovered on Earth about 6 million years ago. Thae fact
that entertainment is not native to Clarians that make it perpetually
interesting much the same way that Mexican food is always interesting
to Anglos. To Clarians entertainment is senior to practically everything. Any effort to be entertained is absolutely justified. In fact and in many ways, it is like a crusade. Clarians living on Clarius are very addicted to American pop entertainment with a major focus on the sixties. The songs and music of many of the Beatles and Jimmy Hendrix are played constantly but their Elvis is Bob Dylan, especially his early years. If there is a flaw in the "hardwire" construction of Clarians, it is in their weakness for puns. Breathers consider puns a low form of humor. But the Clarians are incredibly susceptible to humor derived from puns in English. Most other Earth languages don't lend themselves to puns. If you are, let's say, Japanese, it would be useless to try a pun on a Clarian in Japanese. But if you do it in English, prepare for a knee slapper. |
Entertainment
to those on Earth is widely diverse. There are demonstrations of
proficiency with musical instruments, concerts, that seem to lift many
to great heights. Often stories involving a struggle and some final
resolution are quite popular on Earth. The television has made entertainmet very accessible oll over the world. However, due to the easy access to television programming, many are bored (boredom amongst humans is the most pivotal emotion) with it and have inverted their appreciation to the point of wanting to see another human being humiliated orbeyondThe most curious thing a |

| What's on their iPods? |
The Clarians are nuts about Earth station
music for the most part. Rap music is one
form that avoid because of its repetitive
and predictive nature. The only exception to
this is Lil Wayne. Most all other forms of
music found on Earth are liked much better
than their very own on Clarius |
The iPod has many significances. Just owning one more often than not means the owner is more discerning about his or her music. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, and other musicians prominent in the late sixties are very popular on Earth
| Bob Dylan |
Ever since Bob Dylan appeared on the scene
in the early sixties, his work has been a
source of major interest and speculation.
The Clarians meet at a place called The
Church of the Universal Soul where there are
are large libraries of significant Earth
oriented literature, art, movies and CD's. A
whole wing in Dallas' CUS Church is devoted
to nothing but Bob Dylan CD's, posters,
paintings and clothing said to be worn by
him. Clarians consider Mr. Dylan a kind of
demi-god who has extraordinary communicative
abilities. They are also fond of Joan Baez
and Tracy Chapman, who often sings at the
New York CUS. Before the death of their
drummer, Led Zeppelin turned around many
Clarian heads. |
The breathers support Dylan after many years of him in the limelight. His materials sell quite well consistently over the years. There has been a sort of mass lethargy among sentient breathers since the early sixties. This caused, among those who were healthy enough to carry the torch of self-determinism, a great increase in musicians who seemed to transcend words in their message. Dylan, Joan Baez, The Beatles, and others led this charge at great risk to themselves.
| Religion | To
Clarians religion is about power. The main premises is that for one to
receive power, one must align oneself with the goals and purposes of a
higher power. One does not follow a higher power that one cannot see or
touch. One must actually change to become more effective and useful. This is done by huge and often painful commitment to changes regarding one's own habits and judgments. Clarians do not believe in making any kind of show over their individual struggles to achieve a higher plane. They do, for the most part, believe in and draw parallels to what they would call the seven judgments. All considerations are based on these judgments: h1 Mechanical - If it's there, eat it. No one judgment is in itself good or evil. Judgments are tools to render different a viewpoints of a dimension. The judgments work in harmony and octaves. For example, h2 is the octave of h1. Judgments are actually bands of frequencies. There are no priests in Clarius. |
The
very real and constant threat of dying brings the breathers to a sort
of practical humility. They believe in gods that harbor many of the
same foibles (jealousy, greed, vengeance, etc.) of the breathers
themselves. Except that their gods have the wherewithall to really
punish those that make them jealous or disappointed in some way. Huge wars have been fought over one set of breathers wishing to impose their gods on another set of breathers. Often priests are bribed by family members to put in a good word to their god for a deceased family member. Some "religions" are there for the sole purpose of parting you from your money. Some religions exist to enable their members to congregate with a preferable economic class. The prime consideration of most churches is in the process of raising money. The whole process of owning and operating a church is by default self- corrupting. The greatest influence on the world of religion is a single man who tried to save the world. He was willing to sacrifice himself so that he could make his point and cause others to imitate facets of his life. So the breathers strung him up on a cross for an agonizing death. He predicted the end of the world system. His followers ask how would the righteous ones be recognized. He answered, "By their fruits you will know them." Today we look over this poor planet, where greedy inhabitants have perverted its own life-giving fluids, where rampant lack of judgment is now doubling its population once per generation, where cheap throwaway products are sold to mass audiences who celebrate pain and degradation. Where among the breathers are the fruits? |
||
| Politics | There are no politicians elected in Clarius.
There is an inherited line of ruling
authority much like the monarchy system on
Earth. The most transparent thing that
breathers do to Clarians is to try and
"finesse" each other. There is a great new hope among Clarians in Barack Obama whom the Clarians regard as sincere and potentially instrumental reversing the horrible practices of many of those in power. |
The only program that a breather politician will promote is a program that will tend to keep the politician in office.
The only reason a politician says anything
is openly or furtively to insure re-election.. Politicians take bribes under the name of "campaign contributions" from breathers who want to make money by poisoning other breathers. When there are enough contributions the politician will promote that poisonous product as something for the good of the nation. Legal judges legally accept "campaign contribution" money from lawyers who try cases in front of the same judges to whom they contributed money. There is the illusion of impartiality with statues that attempt to depict Justice as blind. Nothing could be further from the truth in breather justice systems. |

| What is the
attraction of the Earth station to the Clarians? |
Clarians have come to the Earth station primarily to relax and enjoy life. The atmsophere is highly invigorating. But the entertainment value of interacting with the breathers and all their foibles is incomprehensible to any other entity than a Clarian. It is very easy with Clarian knowledge to invent some procedure or product and live off the royalties for many years. | Breathers tend more to ask themselves things like, "Why am I alive?" They are not aware of Clarians.
